Commissioned by Vaasanseudun Kehitys Oy VASEK, we wrote the Circular solutions for the construction
sector guide for the three-part Sustainable Construction guide series.

Finland’s ambitious goal is to be a pioneering country in the circular economy. The construction industry plays a key role in realizing the circular economy transition, as the construction industry has much potential to promote the reuse and recycling of building materials.

From this point of view, we implemented a guide that discusses, e.g. the importance of material choices, cooperation between different actors to achieve circular economy goals, and what the reuse and recycling of building materials require, for example, from the planning of work phases.

We used our network for the expert interviews in the guide and our material expertise in the section about recycled materials.

“Apila’s know-how and professionalism made the project easy to implement. I am more than satisfied with the result. The guide will be very useful for companies in the construction industry on their way to a more sustainable construction future.” — Sustainable Development and Circular Economy Project Manager Hanna Malkamäki, Vaasanseudun Kehitys Oy VASEK

The sustainable construction guides have been implemented with the support of the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), Leverage from the EU 2014–2020, and The Regional Council of Ostrobothnia. The guides can be downloaded from Vaasanseudun Kehitysyhtiö Oy VASEK’s website: https://www.vasek.fi/sustainable-construction/
